I am not saying I am justifying his action, but he can get coins from other gyms that his mons are in and get kicked out, and he can advance the gym badge to reach gold on this one.

Yeah, I noticed this as well, every pokemon caught has the same color/pattern of candy

During this Tuesday’s “Spotlight Hour” the bonus was 2x catch Stardust. Apparently the algorithm did not count this Palkia as a catch subject to that bonus.
