Lets talk - (anything)

As a typical collector, I’m allways affraid what could happen.
My phone breaks, Niantic kills my account, or Niantic decides to stop Pokémon Go.

So I take a screenshot of all Pokémon caught, and copy them to a Laptop in a database. This way I can control better what is still to find, and they cannot got lost.

And this in paper to look easier for faults…

Wow, that is awesome and real dedication! I like the idea of a database, that’s handy and very useful, + the folder is always nice to browse. That reminds me of when I used to have one customised to fit sugar sachets that I was collecting, especially thematic ones.

I had thought about what would happen if I had to start over, should I lose access to my account, that has to be extremely demoralizing and potentially a reason to just stop playing altogether, but I’d not think about the possibility of niantic stopping pokemon go, that is awful!!

It would probably wind up being a mixed blessing. When one of our key sources of aggravation is the game we started playing as a remedy for aggravation…

I guess that’s a bonus for me, I haven’t been playing long enough for the annoying things to start really annoying me… I need to be enjoying it to play daily, otherwise I’d start playing less and less until I stop altogether. But again, I’m not a very big/competitive player or anything like that, so the more casual playstyle (completing pokedex and other things I like doing) means I’m not bothered by the other stuff.

(Although I’m absolutely bothered by the lack of sticker album so I can actually hope to get them all, too, and the lack of effort put into the mechanics of something so simple! Ok, not everyone even pays attention to the sticker part, but the ones who do would appreciate some quality of life changes. And again, it’d be easy to do…)

Some of us find them to be a tedious annoyance. I wish I could ignore them; but Niantic puts them into some field research tasks to force us to pay attention to them (even if just to search for alternative tasks that don’t involve stickers).

I get not wanting to indulge in stickers and, as any other thing in the game, I think players should not be required to do them in order to complete something (as in, the task will not progress unless you do it), because they’re really just a cute detail in the game. I’ve had so many tasks stuck for ages because it required me to do 1 raid, or win 3 raids and I just didn’t care for that at all, so I was stuck there unless I did them. But this still required a lot more effort than just selecting a sticker to attach to a gift and send.

I’m saying this because you get stickers when spinning pokestops and that’s something all players do anyway, so it’s not like you go out of your way to get them. If that were the way I agree it would be tedious, because you’d have to change your playstyle just to get the stickers… you’d be detesting them even more lol. (I’m assuming gifts are regular thing for the player.)

Stickers are an extremely secondary thing in the game, players should be able to just forget about them, sure, but, at the same time, I don’t see how they’re that annoying when you don’t have to change your playstyle in order to obtain them.

Of course, if the game started to specify which stickers you’d have to send, for example a sticker with a specific generation/theme, that would be too much - I’d like the challenge for medals, maybe send a certain number of stickers with this or that pokemon/theme, but that’s something really extra that in no way is happening. They’re a small thing, so only some people care about them! I just wish they had better organization overall.

There’s nothing about the stamps that makes me want to keep any, let alone collect them all.

It’s a personal thing, I guess, I like stickers “in real life” too, so I find them to be something nice to have in game (very extra, but still). I’m always glad when I get a random new one (like today, I got a slowbro).

I have a question about the Special Field Research Day happening tomorrow for Passimian and Oranguru, as it’s going to be my first one (in memory, at least, I may have caught pokemon during one without realizing there was an event going on—) and I’m unsure abot pokestops.

Do we get several research tasks from the same pokestop after spinning it more than once or is it just one for each pokestop?

There’s only one pokestop where I usually go for a walk, I can stretch it to 3 if I go to a different route, so I don’t know if I’ll only get 3 research tasks in total here.

I’m planning on going to a different area to play, as there are several pokestops and gyms, so I won’t run out of pokeballs/berries…, but do I exhaust research tasks after spinning one pokestop or does the same one give me another after spinning again after a time?

(I’m not sure if there’s a better place to post this on the forum, I couldn’t find it…)

I am quite positive, although don’t take me for 100% correct on this one, that Niantic actually made them refresh every hour (so you could collect 3 Field Researches total per PokéStop for the duration of the event) last Research Day. We have never had that before, though, and I also don’t believe there was an announcement for that being the case this time. I feel like it actually will be the case, though, since they have been doing that a lot for Research based 1 day events, but to be a hundred percent certain we will have to wait for the early New Zealand reports.

I’d forgotten already that was on today. I’ve made plans and my time lines are very tight so it’s unlikely I’ll get to participate.

alright then, thanks! I’ll keep an eye out for updates until the event starts, too. I really hope that they do refresh like you’ve said, as the options do branch out a lot more. I’ll collect researches from my usual area first, as it’s only 3, and then head somewhere else to increase my chances and just walk there.

Even though the 2 pokemon aren’t exactly favourites or anything, I’m curious about the event and want to see how it goes. I think I’ll be a lot more pressed for time (due to completing everything before the end) than on community day, so maybe that rush will actually turn to stress… We’ll see!

Looks like they don’t refresh anymore. Niantic must have figured the feedback was too positive and reverted it.

Well, that’s disappointing. If an event requires you to complete research tasks (as many as possible to increase good outcomes for whatever goals people have), pokestops shouldn’t be operating like a regular day, that seems counterproductive. Especially when they made a choice of doing things better before…

I guess I’ll go to the other area, spin some pokestops, complete a few, and head back home for an extra 3 research tasks, calling it a day! (at least for passimian and oranguru, maybe I’ll catch something I really like in the monkey parade going on in the wild).

Not sure if the event happened for you yet but I can confirm they do indeed not refresh every hour. Disappointing, it shouldn’t be too difficult for Niantic to code, but it is what it is.

yes, that was disappointing, especially because they’ve shown they can do better, but just won’t. I especially disliked when I didn’t get anything at all from a pokestop and had to go back there to try and get a task (the plus side of not having that many in an area made it easy to remember the ones I had to check again, but somewere a bit more off, which wasted time).

I’d have preferred to also gain a task, even if my bag was full! I had to get rid of pokeballs just for that to work. It wasn’t a problem, as I could get more easily, but it seemed silly as tasks do not go in my bag.

Couldn’t agree more. I remember they actually promised this feature in a January that was not 2024’s, potentially it was January 2023 but could even have been January 2022. I knew they had tested it and that some people already had the feature, so I was patiently waiting until it was my time to get this too. Only to have been told a couple of weeks ago that Niantic apparently took it out of the game again a good while ago. I cannot believe that is difficult to code at all, and the fact they just took it out of the game without any clarification or even acknowledging the fact they had done so is just really disturbing. I guess there is almost zero chance it is ever returning, sadly, because Niantic has a massive fear for QoL features that should basically be a requirement for the game.

And indeed, they absolutely have made it so the PokéStops would refresh their Field Researches every hour before, too, and I believe even during Research Days. It is truly shocking that they abandoned that as well. I still can’t believe that Niantic claims the game would still be able to last a good decade at least. Niantic is doing absolutely nothing to maintain that claim.

I’m only playing consistently these past few months and I’ve been finding a few things that could easily be improved (and kept permanently) and it really is frustrating and perplexing that niantic actively chooses not to. I imagine how frustrating it must be for players that have bee playing for years and still don’t see improvements (QoL mainly)! (or worse, making it happen, see that it works, and removing them -.-)

These things are even more apparent on special days. And they’re things that would increase enjoyment in the game, making people play for longer, so it’s a win-win situation for all parties.

I’m loving some recent QoL changes.
Location caught moving up the order and the Berry and Ball panel. Can select any Berry with out having to scroll and same for Balls. Having the up down on the Balls to hide the Master Ball from accidental selection/use showed some real through was used to application. For ice it’s a well done Niantic.

Does it still forbid us to change our mind? Like if I hit golden razz by habit before realizing it’s a shiny Legendary and I should Pinap?
