Theres not much meaning behind it, but its a bug that sometimes shows up. Last time i got it i was trying to enter a gym battle i think.
Not sure why it picks hitmonchan. Just placeholders i guess. I solved it by force closing the app and simply restarting it again.

It’s happened to me a few times, and if I remember correctly it happened when I tried to berry a Pokémon that had already been knocked out of the gym
I haven’t had the problem yet, but I let you know when and how it happened.
Usually happens to me when I try and battle a Pokémon that just got kicked out of a gym.
