@Jormdeworm I would like to know how you do it to get so many shinies. Can you make a table which would contain how many shinies you caught in the last 30 days, when you caught them, where you caught them, how many Pokemon you catch per day, and your shiny rate?

It would be difficult due to the various shiny rates and due to the fact that I typically shiny check rather than catch anything, but I can definitely give more insight. Give me a moment, I will see what I can find in terms of screen shots as support.

Okay, so let me start off with the fact that it’s true I don’t walk much for the game. Currently, my progress is this for the current event:
Indeed, I am not planning to finish this Research. I generally don’t like playing the game while walking unless it is really tempting me to. The current event for example has awful spawns that would make me fed up within an hour already, and usually when I do walk specifically for the game then it is indeed no more than an hour. Besides the awful event spawns, I also live in a city, and walk really fast, so people tend to be in the way which I’m honestly not the biggest fan of 
In fact, I have four different play styles:
- I don’t play at all.
- Walking around
- Public transport
- Driving around
I don’t play at all
This is not entirely true, I always open the game at home at least once a day, but the amount of shiny checks on these days are usually not more than say 50 on average.
Walking around
I tend to walk around a bit for special events, like Community Day, Research Day, Hatch Day, and paid events such as GO Fest. I used to play Spotlight Hour as well, but the reason I stopped playing these is because they almost never paid off, and even moreso due to the horrible time frame. If it was an hour later or sooner it would have already been better. I do tend to walk for paid events because I play with locals on these events, which is to me a lot more fun than playing alone.
Let me work out GO Fest Day 2 2026 a bit.
Here was my Shiny result for the day:
What may stand out here is that I did not even use all the free Raid Passes that were given. In fact, I barely raided at all. Together with a group of locals who enjoy playing the game the same way, our goal is to get as many wild shinies I can. I ALWAYS play these at the same spot, with the only exception being day 1, as the spot was blocked off for another local event. I play inside a harbour, and my route through it is circular and takes roughly 40-50 minutes (40 early on the day, 50 late in the day). This is exactly enough for the spawns to refresh, and if hourly Field Research are present, we can do them all every round again as well. We continuously walk the same route, I use Special Rend, do the Field Research on the way as long as they give encounters, incubate all 9 eggs if something special is in there, and someone else from our local group has added our Route to the game too, so I typically have that on as well. We aim to stop as little as possible, especially early on in the day when we are still fit. Only for Raids, lunch break, and that’s it. Later in the day a few more breaks are needed due to our legs growing tired, but even then we always manage to walk one entire round before the hour is over. I think it is reasonable to state that of the 9 event hours, I was walking for at least 7.5 of them. The most important part however is that I typically only shiny check, and quick catch of really necessary. I think I did 1 hour of catching everything early on in the day for XP farming and the researches, and then went back to only Shiny checking everything. This way you can keep checking everything and keep walking without stopping.
What is also important is the place where you play. Aside from the harbour being perfect for continuously making the same rounds, the spawns are really good too. I sadly only have one screen shot from this GO Fest event, which is this:

I could not find a screen shot of the best spot. But as you can see, there are numerous really good spots for spawns really closeby each other. I think there are around 10 of these ‘many spawn point’ locations on our 40-50 minute rounds.

Now comes the more interesting part. Like I said, I typically don’t play like this, only during special events.
Public transport
So during week days, I usually travel a lot. Among which is a bus ride that takes 27 minutes, stops a lot, isn’t really fast and goes through the cities. While I typicslly don’t have much time to walk around these days for the game, the bus ride gives me everything I need every time again. Like usual, I don’t catch, but only Shiny check. I always have the Daily Incense running, which again I catch nothing of, not even cooler evolved spawns. It’s highly important to catch nothing, because if you do, the speed lock might be triggered easily, at least inbetween of the cities. While going through the cities I could catch things if I wanted, but the downside is that catching comes with a loss of many shiny checks, even if I fast catch. So I again typically don’t. I would have to estimate my amount of shiny checks here since I have no idea, but I think 100-150 would be reasonable, meaning one should expect roughly two shinies a week through this method. Since RNG is weird, I think expecting 4 every 2 weeks is more accurate however. I just scrolled through my shinies and I haven’t a clue if that is accurate to be honest. It might very well be though.
It doesn’t sound like much, but this is actually how I get quite a few of my shinies that are not part of special events. I got both my Shiny Galarian Moltres this way, in fact:
As you can tell from the screen shot, I encountered it at 10:19.
But I only caught it at 10:33:
I had to avoid getting speed locked here and having it flee on me as a consequence.
The other I found was much quicker, it apparently only took three minutes to catch. Judging by the time I caught it the bus must have been much quicker than usual. Anyway.
This week, I applied my last tactic to gather shinies:
Driving around
I should probably start of by saying I don’t play the game while driving myself for safety reasons. However, playing as a passenger can help a TON. In fact, this is by far the best way to shiny hunt, though also the costiest. I have another family member who also plays the game, and often when we see each other, we often drive around the city, one of us drives and the other shiny checks on both accounts (usually me). Surprisingly, you can do this really swiftly without losing many checks as opposed to only shiny checking on one phone. In the time the encounter animation loads on one phone, you click on a Pokémon on the other, and then when that encounter animation loads, you escape the encounter on the other phone and click on a new one, etc. There is usually no down time, not for checking. Catching does give down time. I check in patterns to remember which Pokémon I checked on which phone. Usually I work from furthest to closest, and as such I always encounter the same Pokémon that I just checked on the other phone. Since I have purchased the Keldeo research I have mostly let my GO+ catch for me to get all the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh Pokémon.
Since we drive around a really busy city center we almost never hit the speed limit and encounter like crazy. I think I have shown screen shots of a Community Day once, but we go through places like this:
Just on the third picture alone are already 31 checks to be done. Without stopping, I usually manage to check like 80% to 90% of these on both phones. There is no use in going back to check the remaining 10% because you will have forgotten which ones that is by the time you return back. You can of course stop, but that isn’t always possible and also not necessarily really worth it over just continuing. And this is just one of the spots. This one does really stand out, other spots do have less spawns but you can imagine the total tallying really quick like this. And as for how long it takes to check all of these? Maybe a minute. Now imagine an average of 15 clicks per minute, if you drive around for two hours you will have had 1800 clicks which estimates around 3.51 shinies. I think this would be about right. And judging by that alone, I might actually have been over odds for today’s drive-around, especially since a bunch of the current spawns have a shiny boost. The other account too now that I think of it. Now of course this isn’t how I play everyday, it’s just that we are both off right now so we have the time. The current event is however really boring so it may be we won’t do another round like this. However this is how I got the majority of my shinies from this week, we have driven around like this for like 12 hours. So nope, not many kms are made according to the game, but the shiny checks are clocking like crazy. It’s not something we typically so though. Walking just wouldn’t have the same effect here, since it would be impossible to get through the entire city so quick as we drive around it, in contrast to the harbour I mentioned earlier, where it’s the opposite.

Here is also a realistic look at my shiny rates (just a few examples):
Let’s take a look at my Shiny Shadows. Specifically from Leaders. The Shiny Magikarp was from a Grunt, and the Pinsir from Jessie & James. If we consider my Shiny rate from Leaders, I would have gotten 1/(1986/6) = 1/331. The actual rate is 1/64, so that is a massive difference. For Jessie & James I was also massively over odds but I don’t have any data as to how many exactly I encountered. For the raid ones I am definitely under odds, I got really lucky here.
Here are some of my worst shiny droughts (I have them all now):
Ignore the highlights, I looked for keywords in my photo gallery. These screen shots are older and I do have these shinies now. The second screen shot of Lileep’s Dex was taken right after the Shiny. The Caterpie picture was made right as I encountered my first Shiny (I hopped out of the encounter to screen shot the dex, I knew the spawn had just appeared and thus that I had time). To this day I am still missing a Shiny Snorunt and the current event just does not want to give it either 
. It released in December 2017, by the way.
So… that is how I Shiny hunt. I surprisingly am mostly over odds for specific Pokémon, but of course that also depends. The Shiny Sandygast from last week for example was a really lucky one in contrast. So it’s really species dependent. But usually I go over 5/12 before my first Shiny catch, after that I usually don’t really check anymore so I don’t really have a clue.
