You know far more about GBL than I do. I can barely stand to go there, so I mostly keep away from it, except when the game forces us to .
Except I vaguely recall having a level-up task to reach a particular level in GBL (level 10, IIRC), and I don’t recall having to win to reach it. (I did try to win a few, but only for the stardust bonuses.) That’s ok, though – the game has changed so many times in recent years that it’s hard to keep track of what was or to know what is (much less to predict what will be…)
Somehow I managed to pull my act together in the last set, and won 5-0 there !!
That not might be the case. You are experienced player, and that experience always helps. Meanwhile, in my case, I am learning from all of you here about various aspects of the game, and staying amidst you all is fun !
Glad you’re enjoying your time here. We don’t often get new members who stay around for longer anymore, so any new member is welcome. Unfortunately it seems we will never get back to the forum’s state as it was in 2018/2019 with over 60 regulars and thousands of members who returned every once in a while but here’s hoping the forum will in some way gain more activity in the future. For now we’ll keep it open even if there are only 10 active members; it’s still something. Would be a shame if we eventually have to end it though
I guess this is happening because of following reasons :
Bad State of Game : As we all know that presently the game is highly repetitive and predictable. Because of which many old players are simply avoiding the game, as almost all of them had already maxed all the meta Pokemon, had already built the optimal teams for all types of Raids, etc. Because of which there is very little point to play, unless one has the playing style of collector. And thus, game feels boring.
Poor idea of Community Interaction according to Niantic : I feel that Niantic thinks that Pokemon Go can be only played with people who around us. Because of which, folks like us don’t have much interaction in game, except the Friendship Level. So, most people who became friends because of this forum had already reached the max friendship, so after that they don’t have much left to do.
Remote Raids and Battles exists, but nowadays remote raiding is very limited and majority of people don’t like to do battles.
Even this happened with me as well. I challenged one of my friend whose code I found online for a battle, but he quickly cancelled it. And none my friends challenge me for battle, despite the fact that I am always ready for it.
So Niantic need to improve the Community Play, not only for those who exist around us, but also for those who are made online. As not all players have community for the game, including me !
Shift of Community to Discord : I am highly against this. In fact I believe that Discord doesn’t serves the purpose which are needed for online community and forums. All things that can be done on Discord can also be done on the Discourse Forum as well, except Screen Sharing, Calling, etc… But I don’t think that these are deal breakers.
Also I feel that Discord’s UI is too cluttered and feels very slow while using.
Instead Forums service like this is simple and easy to use, and doesn’t compromises on essential features required for community interaction. We can even create Polls, hide details, quote the specific parts of conversation, get badges, create topics, use HTML codes for polished looks, etc. and all these are missing on Discord, despite that it gains unnecessary attention.
I am never going to join that forum over Discord, and will stay on this forum only as I feel that our Forum is very good and has positive environment, because of which discussions are nice and friendly, and has better quality despite the fact that number of active users are less.
But then, lesser members means that all members have better interaction !
I guess all of this can change drastically if content writers of GO Hub also pay their attention to this forum,as few of them like JRE47 can be seen on Discord.
Absolutely true. Also, the fourth reason is we have basically been without an Admin for I think at least 2 years now, meaning we can’t improve the forum to attract more users. Back in 2021 the Moderator team came up with a few ideas that would make the experience on this forum more plausible but we’re unable to add them sadly.
That is true, unfortunately. We have contacted the Admin before, asking him if maybe one of us could get promoted so that we can control the forum while he controls the main Hub and he agreed but I guess he forgot about it which is understandable as he was busy making articles for GO Hub all day long. At this point though it doesn’t matter too much anymore.
The GO Hub writers have no influence on the forum actually. Only the big brain behind GO Hub, Zeroghan, who is also the owner of this forum. We can easily contact him though, even know our third Moderator who had him on Discord is gone.
We can think like we want, but…
Having at work a server which is capable to host the article part and the forum has to be paid. There’s no way to get it without money. So I’m still happy they let us do the forum without asking for money.
Another thing is that we need much lesser space and traffic than the Pokemongohub part, so they can ignore us.
A Forum linking more frecuently to articles, and reverse a newspage which advises more frecuently about the existence of the forum, would be much more eficiently. But, well, we can both going on living without helping each other.
I was very happy in the times Zeroghan was our leader here, but I completely understand him that’s imposible to do both works at the same time.
A moment ago I’ve seen I’m member here from 17th of may 2017… more than 6 years now… time runs more rapid I thought… I was younger than 60 years old in this moments…
Even I also wonder about this, despite not being tech ignoramus !!
If this is the only purpose, then one can use other services as well.
But I think the reason behind this might be the people’s attitude. Most people use smartphone, hence they expect that everything should have an application, because of which they abstain themselves from using any services for which they have to login via going into browser.
They might think that closing the webpage will log them out, and then they need to take the pain again for logging in.
They think that browser should only be used for searching, nothing else. Because of which they use Youtube application, even though they can view videos via browsers as well.
That's why servers like Reddit, Discord are more popular, despite the fact that they have very terrible UI.
They consider themselves too lazy and/or have false belief that using application for each services help them stay organised !
But particle Physics is working on Grand Unified Theory ! Hence using one browser for everything seems in unison !
Sorry, I don’t want to counter you as you are elder and respected person for me. But I want to put my viewpoint which quite interesting !
This forum is based on Discourse Forum Services, and Discourse is Open-Source service.
The interesting part is :
So we can host our own forum for free provided we have all the necessities covered.
Except for continuous and stable internet connection, I have access to everything else, as I use PC for going online, even if I am using Signal or Discord. And my PC runs on Linux !
Discord is a generalized platform for managing user interactions (and the registration of users for particular Discord servers). Apps / bots having varied functions and user-interaction protocols have been developed on top of that platform, providing services like what you described.
The local server I first joined is mostly a system for notifying others about things like raid eggs, active raids, locations of particular research tasks, interesting spawns, and then ‘meeting’ new game friends. Servers / bots providing greater functionality and managing more things developed over time, which led me eventually to switch over to Poke Genie (for a place where I could queue up to raid a boss without having to race others for a slot in the lobby, when my connection was usually too slow to join before it filled).
I’ve used our server mostly in city and suburb settings. But I can easily imagine using it in a rural one, to let widely scattered friends know when I encounter something they would consider worth the bother to go in-person. Like arranging to meet for a trade or a Mystery Box that can’t be done at a distance.
That’s a disorganized summary from a user who is only a little less ignorant of it than you say you are. I’m sure copious information can be found online with some searching. I bet wikipedia even has a discord overview.
Discord is advertized as the the place for Gaming Community. Because of which people think that anything gaming can be done on Discord only !
The developer’s main concern was to integrate messaging with VoIP, so that he can discuss games strategies during live streaming.
Except this, anything that can be done there, can also be done here.
