No connection on the whole is pretty good, it does lose my gps a couple of times a day but other than that its fine. Although I have no clue what this shadow banning is (i am 52yrs old and just a mum) i obviously know what banning indicates so is there a way to appeal it? Ifthats what it is.
A shadow ban is given for using 3rd party apps that log into your account to check IVs (individual values which are stats indicating how strong your Pokémon can potentially be). Also any app that gives false gps locations can cause it. If your child was using an app to check IVs that is probably the cause. You can contact Niantic, but it usually takes 1-4 weeks 
why tf are they against checking IVs tho

If you delete it from your phone it needs between 1 and 4 weeks to go away

I don’t know this one, but I use Calcy IV, and it gives no problem
