I guess trading could work to get some extra candies… you can get 3 instead of 1 if you trade pokemon instead of delete it - so 2 extra candies for 100 stardust… if you trade your mon for the same type from your friend, and then delete it - it will be 4 instead of 1.
Could be handy in case of rare types… probably not important for players having too much candies of any type
