i picked mine based on what i uniformally use for social media - perhaps keeping it simple and short is good avenue =)

I agree to an extent. I don’t really mind that I used my real name. Although sometimes it backfires when I pop a lure on the PokeStop at work.
The only way I’d change it is if I can think of something unique that isn’t taken already.

I also used my ‘usual’ online presence username which is the same one as on here: Lilliaceae
I would definitely recommend creating an unique name rather than using your real name though, for the already mentioned reasons, but I see how hard that might be…
Some ideas for a truly unique username:
• take any peculiar words that aren’t in the day to day vocabulary, but sound cool (and maybe even have a cool meaning) any dictionary might help.
• think of something you like and translate it into another, preferably uncommon, language (Latin, Ancient Greek). For myself, I just took the Latin name for a plant family, the Lily, and sort of made it my own (it’s technically ‘liliaceae’ in Latin, but I added an L)
• Give a ‘common’ username a unique spelling (e.g. like Mystic7)
• Try an anagram of your name, the name of your city, your sibling, whatever (I know weird example but: Tom Marvolo Riddle turns into ‘I am Lord Voldemort’)

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely try to use your ideas to create a new username. It makes it that much more difficult when I only have one opportunity to change my name.

Think about your character? Is that a gym leader, a researcher, a specialised trainer or some kind of interesting trainer related to their favourite/unique Pokemon species or type. There are lots of creative way to go with this!
I think this way is more interesting because it’s a name/character without using your real name. Other than that pick something that at least so people can read and remember. I’m seeing lots of spoofers just used lots of random letters and number like jaijdksndh555 is not helping when PvP comes. Hope it helps

It’s actually a mute issue. Its neither good or bad. Mostly ill advisable but most people don’t realize how much information they share on a regular basis because they don’t read TOS on anything and so much information that you may believe is private is actually public information anyone could look up if they know where to go and how.

Well, when i was trying to create my nick, i created only those, that already existed, but then, i made completely spontanous nick, i grabbed fact that i like elevators (don’t ask why, they’re just cool), and fact that they’re better than stairs, and my current nick was born: Elevatorisbest
