It could also be a worldwide regional event where for a few days you could catch any regional anywhere, or shiny regionals, or PvP, who really knows?

I don’t think it will be pvp as that will be released as a feature anyway.
When will the Ultra bonus be revealed?
That’s great, let me just ask 1 question. Why would you like to know the ultra bonus before it is released? It spoils the surprise. I know people want to know if their guesses were correct, but still.
Everything is announced before release.

Lol if Moltres day happened an no one knew then everyone would start an hour or 2 late and people would have plans and stuff
No, they can say that something will happen at the hour X without publicating what it will be.
On the day? Like, yesterday they would say, early in the morning, the hour?
Or they could say, something is coming, go to gyms near you?

And why not a week before: “At sept 9 2018 at the local hour X we will start a special event in all Gyms around the world. It will last 3 hours.”
Without saying what it will be, everybody will be intrigued.
So then for the UB they could say…
Something is coming! On Sept. 15th, 2018, a legendary event will happen at gyms near you. Gather forces to take down strong bosses!
