I also got a surprise shiny turtwig yesterday during the drifloony event. However my expletive-laden yell (WHAT THE FU-RTWIG!!!) wasn’t quite as welcoming a reaction as that of @vorgriff3

In all candor, I was rather displeased with having zero Shiny Drifloon from previous events; so had I not gotten my first Shiny Drifloon before the Shiny Turtwig, my reaction to the latter might have been distinctly less hospitable than it was.

You’re right! Turtwig WAS my first shiny yesterday… I did get three drifters later which did somewhat soften the blow

Failed to finish my Tale of Tails research during the weekend Charmander event, leaving me with an unfinished “Catch 15 Charmanders” task. As with many events, the featured Pokémon seems to get REALLY scarce for a period of time after the event – like weeks; so the only way to catch 15 Charmander any time soon is to raid Charmander 15 times… Just when I had been moping about having to spend 15 raid passes to finish the task, the 5th one turned out shiny. Nice consolation.

Love how Niantic profoundly nerfed Alolan Marowak for today’s raid event. It had required at least 3 for such a long time, it was hard to adjust to being able to solo it today.
I raided all 15 gyms nearby, and my main got 5 shiny (below), while my alt got 0. 
That kind of disparity only contributes to perceptions that the RNG is mysteriously rigged.
