Is this any good as a Shadow? I am genuinely considering Purifying it for the Hundo. Even though I already like to pretend that this just is a Hundo.

Exactly, for me it is a Hundo (without doing the last step).
The good in the Pokédex is, that in case of purifying you will have three entries: one as shadow, one as purified, and one as 100%.
So, it depends a lot on what you want. I’m shure you have enough candies to do whatever you want with this one.

If you purify it, you can mega evolve Altaria.

That is a really good point I didn’t think about! I guess the choice is easy then, though I will hold on to it being a Shadow for a little longer
