I appreciate Niantic’s goal to keep the game safe from stalkers, especially youth; so I support their unwillingness to provide a general personal-messaging function or to facilitate in-person meetings between trainers.

A mechanism for game friends to arrange PvP contests in the game would not necessarily compromise that goal in any way, though, since there is no need for physical presence to complete them. Without such a thing, PvP could languish as a rarity (or at best accidental). A protocol to determine interest and schedule a challenge would not need any means to communicate locations, just times.
